To take the Rider's Edge® New Rider Course, you'll need:

A valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit
To be able to ride a bicycle

For the riding sessions, you'll need:

A heavy long-sleeve shirt or leather jacket
Jeans, chaps or leather pants
Over-the ankle, sturdy footwear
Full-fingered gloves
A helmet that meets DOT requirements
Eyewear

The cost of the New Rider Course is $350. Remember, the price includes the use of a Buell® Blast® motorcycle for class riding sessions.

Attendance at each session is mandatory - if you miss a class for any reason, you'll have to reschedule so you can take the course again from start to finish.

You will receive your Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCourseSM completion card after passing a multiple-choice written knowledge test and a riding skills evaluation.

In Maine, this card will exempt you from having to take the written and/or riding portion of your motorcycle license test (No Road Test!)

Depending on your insurance provider, the completion card can also qualify you for a substantial discount - usually 10 to 15% - on motorcycle coverage. Check with your insurance company for details.

A proven blend of classroom instruction and range riding, the Rider's Edge® New Rider Course delivers the basics of motorcycle operation in Harley-Davidson style. You’ll learn from devoted instructors certified by both the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) and Harley-Davidson to create a relaxed, supportive environment that fosters camaraderie and confidence. And after passing a written and riding skills evaluation, you'll receive an MSF RiderCourseSM Completion Card that could exempt you from the written and/or riding portion of the motorcycle license test, as well as possibly qualify you for discounts on insurance. But more than that, you'll begin a journey that lasts a lifetime.

You’ll be riding the 492cc Buell® Blast®, a light easy to handle sportbike with a rider-friendly design that will have you feeling in control.

The New Rider Course costs
$350.00 per person, which includes the use of a Buell® Blast®, Instructors, State materials and motorcycle endorsement testing. Refreshments included.
